Benanova’s IP Protected by an Issued US Patent

Benanova has pioneered the development of an entirely new class of functionally active, sustainable, and eco-friendly materials based on the widely available, biodegradable, and bio-renewable resource – lignin. The patent “Functionalized Environmentally Benign Nanoparticles” awarded by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (US PTO) now protects this technology (Patent No US 10,278,395).

The invention is directed to the preparation and applications of internally and/or externally functionalized environmentally benign nanoparticles that are produced by a three-step procedure as follows: (i) synthesis of native particles, (ii) functionalization with active agents, and (3) additional surface property customization via one or more modifiers. Dr. Velev and Dr. Richter are the inventors of the intellectual property.
